Who we work with
We work with women who have experienced domestic abuse and the family courts, including those who self-refer, alongside professionals in legal, health, and support sectors. Our reach extends across Devon and Cornwall, with support from The Sunflower Centre, Real Ideas, Improving Lives Plymouth and Liskerrett Centre.
Who is Arethusa?
Arethusa was a nymph in Greek mythology, known for her courage, resilience, and transformation. Pursued by the river god Alpheus, she fled across the land until the goddess Artemis transformed her into a spring, allowing her to escape and continue her journey in a new form. Her story is one of survival, renewal, and the power of change.
Why Arethusa inspires our project
We named our project after Arethusa because her journey reflects the experiences of women who have faced domestic abuse and navigated the family court system. Like Arethusa, these women encounter danger and challenge, yet find ways to reclaim their agency. Through art therapy, creative workshops, and public exhibitions, participants transform their experiences into healing, expression, and advocacy, turning personal stories into catalysts for social, cultural, and policy change
